SAP ECC to S/4HANA Migration — Zero Lost Production Days

The Challenge

The customer ran SAP ECC for 14 years — a 1.8 TB database with years of custom ABAP code, interfaces, and business configuration that kept the company running. With SAP ending standard support for ECC on 31 December 2027, they faced a hard deadline: migrate to S/4HANA or pay ever-increasing extended-maintenance costs and grow compliance risk. The fear: downtime meant lost production, and a botched ERP migration could cripple the business.

What We Did

Free technical assessment using SAP Readiness Check 3.0 and the Simplification Item Check — full inventory of database, custom code, interfaces, users, and integrations before touching anything

Custom code analysis with ATC to find exactly what needed to change

HANA database sized precisely from the real database on r8i.32xlarge (1,024 GB RAM)

High availability: synchronous replica in a second data center — if one server fails, no downtime

Disaster recovery: asynchronous copy in a second region for extra safety

SAP SUM 2.0 DMO one-step procedure, rehearsed twice: first on a sandbox copy, then on the quality system with the customer's own finance and warehouse teams signing off

Key Outcomes

Total downtime: 26 hours over one weekend. Zero lost production days. Old ECC system kept as a 4-week safety net — never needed. Budget within the original 3-year allocation.
